EkiDi. | AR Mobile App for Tokyo Station
Another UI/UX design challenge to design an AR app for a Japanese train station, for which, I chose the Tokyo station because of its rich history, and create a spec document for it.
Features exciting micro-interactions and transitions all created using Figma components.

First off, really great work! The concept is excellent, and the look and feel certainly pique my curiosity. The options to learn about history or architecture are engaging, and the walkthrough is clean and easy to understand. Excellent job documenting the product, the specs at the end are very helpful.
Here are a few pointers for potential improvement:
- Button Sizes: Consider increasing the button sizes, especially for a mobile app, to improve the user experience by making them easier to tap.
- Illustrations: The walkthrough is clean, but you could elevate it with some uniformed illustrations. You could look into some kits or tools like MidJourney, ChatGPT, and Recraft.ai (can make very nice vectors) to help create beautiful images.
- Icon Button: I just wanted to clarify the purpose of the icon button with '15' in the top right corner. It's unclear what it represents, a label may help here. The heart I assume is a list of your favourites which the user added during the tour.
- Typography Hierarchy: Consider how you could potentially enhance the hierarchy in your typography. The title and subtexts are quite similar, which can sometimes make it hard to distinguish important information.
- Treasure Hunt Feature: The treasure hunt is a cool feature, but it was difficult to interact with the zone. The microcopy could better explain how to use this feature. Consider subtle micro animations to guide users on where to click and what to do. I was able to progress using the arrow keys on my keyboard I’m not sure if this was intentional.
Keep up the fantastic work, you are no doubt a talented designer!
I liked the detail of the description, a worthy project

Hello Praneetha,
This is innovative work on the EkiDi AR app for Tokyo Station. I appreciated how you merged cultural storytelling with gamification through the points collection mechanic. What struck me most was your choice to anchor the experience in architectural history rather than treating AR as a gimmick. It gives users genuine value beyond novelty and they're actually learning about Tokyo Station's heritage. Second, it demonstrates understanding that the best AR experiences solve real problems (navigation, discovery, engagement) rather than existing for their own sake. Lastly, the micro-interactions you designed in Figma show attention to detail that makes the experience feel polished rather than experimental.
Your approach to blending culture, interaction design, and emerging technology shows sophisticated thinking about what makes digital experiences meaningful. Looking forward to seeing more from you!
Cheers,
Karen
