You're doing an amazing job with this project! The foundation is strong, and your ideas are already standing out. Just a few refinements, and this will be even more polished and aligned with the brief. Here’s how you can push it further.
Things to Improve
- Make buttons and touch areas bigger. Your layout is clean and easy to navigate, but slightly larger touch targets will make interactions even smoother, especially on mobile. A small tweak that will make a big difference!
- Better explanation for the match feature. The swipe-to-match idea is brilliant, and adding a small "Why this match?" button would make it even better. Giving users a quick explanation like "Based on your watch history" or "People who liked X also liked this" will make the recommendations feel more personalized and meaningful.
- More engaging reviews. Your review system is already solid, but adding a "Was this review helpful?" button will help surface the most valuable reviews. And if you want to take it to the next level, why not let users record short video reviews? Some people prefer speaking over typing, and this could make the platform more dynamic.
- Refine social features. You’ve already included friend-based reviews, which is a great touch, but there’s room to make it even more interactive. What if users could follow friends’ activity and see what they’re watching? Or even better—introduce a Watch Party feature where they can watch together and chat in real time. This could make the experience feel much more connected.
- More personalization options. Right now, the profile screen gives users a way to track their activity, which is great. But imagine letting them choose favorite genres, set movie-watching goals, or customize their homepage to fit their preferences. Some people might want trending movies upfront, while others may prefer to see their watchlist first. Giving users this flexibility would make the app feel truly tailored to them.
- Polish microinteractions. The app already looks clean and modern, but a few subtle animations could take it to another level. Imagine "smooth swipe animations, a subtle effect when saving a movie, or a progress bar that animates when a user is finishing a movie"—these details will make the experience feel seamless and polished.
Things to Add to Match the Design Brief More Closely
- Competitive analysis section. The design brief asks for this, and adding it will really strengthen your submission. A quick breakdown of Netflix, Disney+, and Hulu—what they do well, where they fall short, and how your design improves on their weaknesses—would make a huge impact.
- Justify unique features. Your ideas are so creative and well thought-out, but adding a bit more explanation will help showcase why they matter. For example, "Annotations help users take notes and discuss key moments while watching." "Swipe-to-match reduces decision fatigue and makes finding something to watch effortless." Framing your features this way will make them even more compelling.
- Show mobile vs. desktop layout differences. The brief asks for both, so showcasing how the design adapts to different screens will make your submission even stronger. For example, "swiping works great on mobile, but how does match work on desktop?" Maybe instead of swiping, users could drag and drop movies into a favorites list. A small addition like this will show that you’ve considered all use cases.
- Add a usability testing plan. This would be a great finishing touch. A quick mention of "how you’d test the design before launch"—would you do user interviews, A/B testing, or heatmap analysis? Including this will show that you’re thinking beyond just the design phase and considering how real users will interact with it.
Your project is already strong and unique, and with these refinements, it will be even more polished and aligned with the brief. You have a clear vision, and these small tweaks will help you showcase it in the best possible way.
As a developer who is moving towards design myself this is an awesome start. I think your designs show you're beginning to think like the user which is important in design. You've got a powerful flow and idea being developed that focuses on familiar interactions from other apps while incorporating it into a streaming app that prevents the "doom scroll" of looking for something to watch! Excellent wire frames and keep up the good work!
I would look to see how you can reduce some of the excess components on some of the pages, keep it focused on what's important for that particular flow and avoid using distracting elements, this can also help reduce clutter. The one spot that I noticed this most was the "Your Reviews" box, it felt distracting and like I should be able to access it in the review count above as well. Cleaning little elements like this can take this wireframe over the time.
