“WeatherNow” is a web app that allows users to check the current weather anywhere in the world. This was a side project I participated in as a UX Designer. The challenge came from my brother (Tiago Luís), a Web Developer, who wanted to implement a simple weather web app using React and Chakra UI Library.

I like the idea of an app that gives you real time weather because where I live we’re constantly checking for rain before leaving the house. So the pain points of users for this app I totally relate to. The app isn’t cluttered and the search bar is right on top, in the middle in a prominent position so the user can really focus on the task and goal of the application. The versions are also consistent across devices and it’s nice to see the Figma prototype adapting as you scale it. I like the weather cards and the spacing of it - it gives enough information without overwhelming the user with too much extra information. Even the font choice feels modern, sleek, easy to read but also casual and friendly.

For the live application

  • The speed and performance of the actual website is excellent
  • When typing city names I was expecting an autocomplete search field actually with some predictions or suggestions at least
  • When the field is empty and I hit search, it says “There are no results matching your search. Please try a different city.” Here you can change the error message to tell the user “Please complete the field,” So that you have very targeted error messages.
  • Would also be a nice touch if you could show me my city in the images below if you are able to detect my location
  • Although the blue and white color scheme gives it a light and spacious feel, consider an accent colour to give emphasis where its needed, such as on the search bar or to highlight certain data types like the temperature

Lovely idea, even greater that you could build this with family. Its really nice to explore ideas and bring it to life with people you trust. With a little improvement here and there it can really by a solid project and become a go-to for people wanting simple and timeous weather data!

Hi Nicole, Thank you so much for your thoughtful and detailed feedback! I’m really glad to hear that you connected with the concept and found the app’s design clean and user-friendly across devices. Your suggestion regarding autocomplete in the search field makes perfect sense. It was something we considered, but due to the project’s scope, we decided to leave it as a future improvement. Additionally, your feedback on more targeted error messages and incorporating an accent color is greatly appreciated, as these adjustments would enhance the user experience. The idea of detecting users’ locations to further personalize the app is another valuable suggestion. I’m also happy to hear you appreciated the collaborative aspect of this project — building it with my brother has been a truly rewarding journey. Thank you again for your kind words and insightful suggestions!
I can feel the love built into it :D
