Background and Initial Idea

The COVID-19 pandemic brought significant changes to various sectors, including education, which shifted drastically to online learning. In this situation, the development team identified an opportunity to create an interactive educational medium that is both entertaining and informative about the importance of combating the virus. This idea led to the creation of "Earthalopia: New World Defence," an educational game based on the Tower Defense genre. This genre was chosen for its ability to combine strategy and action while delivering an educational message.

Concept and Gameplay

Earthalopia: New World Defence 1

"Earthalopia: New World Defence" places players in the role of a defender protecting themselves from the COVID-19 virus. In this game, hand sanitizer towers serve as defensive structures to repel enemy attacks. Players start with 6 life points that must be preserved. Each virus defeated awards points that can be used to upgrade towers and strengthen defenses.

The game consists of three levels with increasing difficulty. Each level challenges players to devise effective defensive strategies. If enemies breach the defenses and reach the player's base, life points will decrease. The ultimate goal is to defeat all viruses without losing all life points.

Technical Development

The development of this game involved several key technical elements, including:

  1. Game Code: Functions for menus, game controls, point systems, and the mechanics of towers and enemies.
  2. Artistic Design: Visualization of the game, including tower assets, enemies, maps, and decorative elements.
  3. Audio: Background music and sound effects to enhance the gaming experience.
  4. User Interaction: Intuitive menus and progressive levels to ensure accessibility for a wide range of players.

Team Roles

The development of "Earthalopia" was carried out by a team of five members, each with specific responsibilities, including:

  • Game Designer: Responsible for the gameplay system and level balancing.
  • Programmer: Implementing core game codes.
  • Artist: Designing attractive visual assets.
  • Project Manager: Managing project timelines and targets.
  • Audio Engineer: Providing audio elements for the game.

Final Output and Publication

After thorough development and testing, "Earthalopia: New World Defence" was released as an interactive educational medium. The game offers a fun learning experience while raising awareness about the importance of combating the pandemic. Its engaging visuals, challenging gameplay, and strong educational message make this game an innovative educational tool.

Great idea to create such a game! I found it very useful. However, at first glance, I didn’t quite understand the purpose of the grey circles or what the green area under the pause and sound icons represents. Additionally, if a user purchases items, it would be helpful for them to see what they own and any improved versions of those items. Otherwise, everything else is clear and well-executed. Keep up the great work!

The 3 circles on the left are for the latest weapon version in the future. then for the green box under the pause button it is for other buttons or displays in the future too but I am still looking for other ideas. Thank you for your suggestions and reviews, we will accommodate them for future updates.
