Project Objectives -

The aim was to create a new video streaming service with a distinctive approach to usability, making it stand out from existing platforms. This involved developing innovative visual design concepts, crafting interactive wireframes, and prioritizing a user-centered experience.

1. Research & Competitive Analysis

A competitive analysis was conducted on three major streaming platforms: Amazon Prime Video, Apple TV, and The Chosen app to initiate the design process.

This analysis helped identify their key strengths and weaknesses, which were then used to shape the new video streaming service's design strategy.

2. Design Process

The design goals focus on simplifying content discovery with a clean, minimal layout to prevent user overload. The mobile wireframes emphasized easy navigation.

3. Wireframes

A set of wireframes were developed for mobile using Figma. The goal was to ensure consistency, simplicity, and ease of navigation.

4. Visual Design

A dark mode theme with rich contrasts and turquoise accent colors was selected to minimize eye strain during long viewing sessions while offering a visually appealing interface.

5. Prototype

A mid-fidelity prototype was developed using Figma's interactive features.

Conclusion

The design of this new video streaming service successfully delivered a unique and engaging user experience that sets it apart from competitors. By prioritizing improved usability and introducing innovative features like category-based video streaming, the platform offers a fresh, user-friendly approach to streaming.

Hey Julissa, I went through your showcase and found that you did a great job here 😀

What I love about your showcase:

  • The Figma presentation is nicely drafted and easy to follow
  • The competitive analysis is very concise
  • The annotation used in low-fidelity wireframe is effective to show design intentions
  • The chosen typography is unique but friendly at the same time

What I think would help to improve the showcase even more:

  • Your presentation in Figma is clean & effective, but that's not reflected in the project cover image which is a bit overwhelmed with many texts and complex layout. This mislead to a thought of a final UI, while your intention is just a mid-fi wireframe.
  • Let's show more preview images in the projects. Sometimes, the reviewers forget or don't see the link "Open full projects".
  • The contrast applied with the colors are not so rich as the direction. Be aware of the icon color on bottom navigation bar as they seem blended into the background, not easy to recognize.
  • Consider the color selection for logo on the top left corner. That turquoise would be potentially not very easy to see on dark thumbnail.
  • I found minor inconsistency between the low-fi wireframe and the mid-fi wireframe (The position of Logo & Profile Icon on the top menu, the duplicate copy of "Resume Movie" button,...) that could be easily improved.

Congratulations on the project. Wish you a great day, Julissa! 😉

Hi Nguyen, Thank you so much for taking the time to provide detailed feedback. I struggled with the cover image and couldn't figure out what was wrong, but your suggestions have been helpful. I also appreciate you pointing out the minor inconsistencies—I hadn't noticed those before. I'll be sure to make the necessary changes. Thanks again for your valuable input! Best
