Workshop Planning
Improving and redesigning the search and filtering experience of a luxury department store.
Product: Redesigning the search and filtering experience for the Woolworths app.
Rationale: There has been a growing rate of loyal users who are struggling to navigate and find their items within the Woolworths app. This workshop will look at the basic functionality of the search and filter to identify the underlying problem and redesign the UI layout and optimise the user experience to provide a more intuitive and seamless user experience, ultimately enhancing product discovery and user satisfaction.
Device type: Mobile phones for IOS and Android.
Goals of the Workshop
Identify: We will identify the problem about why users are struggling to navigate the search and filter properties of the app.
Ideas: We will generate a wide range of ideas that will help remove the underlying problem and optimise the user experience
Prioritize: After creating the ideas we will prioritize the solutions based on their potential impact, feasibility, and alignment with user needs to ensure that we focus on the most valuable improvements.
Prototype: We will create prototypes or wireframes of the proposed improvements to visualize and test the new design concepts.
Feedback: We will organise a meeting with the product owner and stakeholders to gather feedback on the prototypes so we refine and iterate on the solutions before final implementation.

Our Product: The product that my design team is working on is an online app called Woolworths which is a luxury department store.
Our Team: Our team consist a total of 12 UX and UI designers.
Our Setting: Our design workshop will take place at our Design Studio where we will have flexible seating, creative tools, and breakout spaces. This workshop will last one working day from 08:00am - 17:00pm.
The Need: My team will be working on improving and redesigning the search and filtering experience of the Woolworths app.
Pre-workshop Plan
A list of tasks that need to be done at least 2 weeks before the workshop in order to prepare for the day of the Workshop:
- I will conduct interviews with the stakeholders of Woolworths (managers, marketing team, customer service) to identify the business’s goals and the customer pain points.
- I will conduct a market research to find the key trends on luxury stores and analyse the competitors app to see the major differences.
- Create a powerpoint presentation that includes the agenda for the day, the instructions for the task that need to be done and any other relevant information that will help my team mentally and physically prepare for the workshop.
- Plan a date to send out the invites to my design team. The invite will be sent at least 1 week before the workshop day, so my team will not have any colliding meetings or events for the day.
- Plan and prepare to have refreshments and snacks available at the outdoor chill zone for my team to have during breaks.
- Gather necessary tools that may be needed such as post-its, pens, markers. As well as making sure that we have access to our testing space so my team has access to our design software to create prototypes.
- Make sure that there is enough seating space and room available in our studio for my team to split into groups to have creative discussions.
- Reserve the studio.
Post-Workshop Plan
A list of task that I must do as a follow-up to the workshop:
- Organise and digitally store the ideas made during the workshop
- Create a form questionnaire and send it out to my team to gather feedback about the workshop, so I can make notes on what needs to change or be improved to make my next workshop worthwhile.
- Book a meeting and send out invites with the product owner, developers and my design team to discuss the ideas.
- My team and I will further refine the prototype based on the given feedback from the meeting.
- Book another meeting with the product owner and stakeholders to present the final prototype for approval.
- Collaborate with the developers to begin the process of developing the approved design.
