User Persona for Social Media

For this project, I created a User Persona for Jake -- a Bluesky user.

To develop Jake's persona, insights were gathered through user interviews, where I explored his preferences, frustrations, and motivations. By directly engaging with Bluesky users and asking thoughtful questions, I uncovered his values around decentralization, privacy, and his desire for a community-driven platform. These interviews helped me understand his pain points, like discoverability issues and missing features, and also highlighted his careful approach to moderation and content sharing. This in-depth, qualitative research allowed me to craft a persona that truly represents his needs and behaviors.

From this data, I gained these key insights:

• Users value Bluesky’s commitment to decentralization but struggle with usability and discoverability.
• Engagement is lower compared to mainstream platforms due to feature limitations.
• A strong demand exists for improved moderation without compromising freedom of expression.

Based off of this information, I can propose these potential design solutions:

• Enhanced content discovery features, such as topic-based feeds and AI-assisted user recommendations.
• Better community-building tools, including curated lists and interest-based groups.
• Transparent and decentralized moderation tools that give users more control over their content and interactions.
