Overview: I created a fun, spooky set of Halloween-themed icons for the Spotify mobile app. The goal was to keep the icons functional and user-friendly while adding a touch of seasonal spirit to the app interface.

Project Background: Spotify is a global leader in music streaming and reaches millions of users with dynamic, immersive experiences. This Halloween redesign is all about adding a seasonal spark to the app, making it exciting and engaging for everyone, from casual listeners to die-hard music fans — without interrupting their core experience.

Hi Iulia!

Spotify is undoubtedly a complex product for icon creation and redesign, but you’ve done an impressive job with this set. For the next iteration, here are a few areas to consider:

Stylistic Consistency: Some icons, like "shift," "more," and the window with the spider, feel visually disconnected from the rest of the set. Harmonizing these in a more cohesive, unified style would enhance the overall UI and user experience.

Differentiation between "Pause" and "Play": The "Pause" and "Play" icons appear too similar due to the pumpkin shape. While the eye shape seems intended to provide differentiation, it’s too small to be noticeable. Consider emphasizing key details to make them more distinct at a glance.

Icon Scalability: While you referenced scalability in your Design Principles slide, the actual visual differences between the various icon sizes are minimal. To enhance usability, larger icons should feature more detail, while smaller icons should simplify to maintain clarity at different scales.

Great work! These refinements could elevate your design even further.

Hey Iulia! I like your idea and I believe Halloween icons could be a fun addition to the Spotify app. However, I feel like need to focus a bit more on the functionality and meaning of the icons. For some of them, it is getting a bit lost and it could lead to confusion or misinterpretation (e.g. the play/pause icons). Anyway great start, keep up the work!

Hey, thanks a lot for the feedback! I get what you mean about clarity, especially with the play/pause icons. I’ll work on making them more functional while keeping the Halloween vibe. Appreciate the insights!

I love Spotify branding and design, even though it has some problems in my opinion mostly regarding the UX of the app but it is a very exciting project to give a spooky vibe to the Spotify iconography.

Your icons concept look great, but it would be even more amazing if you've kept the spotify styiling, your icons are looking too thin. Also some details get lost in small sizes like the pumpkins to play and stop, we lose their function with your concept despite being a fun idea!

Despute that, the icons look very consistent. The only that misses is the vampire teeth, why is it in fill mode? I would change it to stroke like the others.

Good job but there are some things missing to make it great.

Thanks so much for the detailed feedback! I’m glad you liked the concept and consistency, and you’re right about keeping closer to Spotify’s styling. I’ll work on balancing the thickness and tweaking details for better clarity at smaller sizes. Great call on the vampire teeth, too—switching it to stroke would definitely keep things more cohesive. Appreciate the insights; they’re super helpful!

Hi Iulia! It’s a great idea to integrate Halloween theme into Spotify’s icons. I loved the icon set especially the pause and play pumpkins; they’re my favorite 😊 However, they’re a bit too small to be easily noticeable. It would also be great to have more explanations in the presentation. Overall, amazing effort and creativity!

Thank you so much for the helpful feedback! 😊 I'll do my best to improve the icons and make them more noticeable.
