Inspired by my own frustrations with Palia's current fast travel system, this personal UX/UI project presents a concept for a smoother, more intuitive, and efficient fast travel navigation experience, ultimately aiming to enhance the player experience within Palia's world

-Project Overview-

Palia - Fast Travel UI Concept 1

-Heuristic Evaluation-

To systematically analyze the usability issues identified in my personal experience, I conducted a heuristic evaluation of Palia's fast travel interface using Jakob Nielsen's 10 Usability Heuristics, a widely recognized set of UI design guidelines. The following are the key findings.

-User Personas-

These User Personas were made by putting together what I found when checking the fast travel system, how I use the game, and many opinions from players on Reddit, Discord, YouTube, and Bluesky. The goal is to show what players need and what makes them frustrated.

-Low-Fi Wireframes-

The next step in the design process involved creating lo-fi wireframes. These basic sketches helped to visualize the initial structure and layout of the proposed fast travel interface.

Palia - Fast Travel UI Concept 4

-Final Results-

After looking at the four design ideas, three were chosen to continue. The third idea was not selected because it seemed like its organization could be confusing for users. The other three designs looked better and easier to use for improving the fast travel system, so they moved to the next step.

As a fellow Palia player, a few menus have similar issues, this makes more sense to me!

Thank you! Glad you like it. I've also been thinking about redesigning the furniture crafting interface because finding specific items can be tricky. Maybe categorizing furniture by style family ('Bellflower' or 'Capital Chic' for example) could make a big difference. What do you think?
Yes at the moment I only find things based on what I've made in the past as there are many styles Ive just not bothered making. Almost using it as a favourites. This might encourage me to make more as I wouldn't have to scroll through everything.
Totally agree, it's the same for me. That's why I think if the organization were more intuitive by style, exploring new furniture would be much more appealing than having to scroll through everything. Thanks for your input!
