Enabling women to feel comfortable with their own bodies
Overview
Radical is a start-up specializing in custom-fitting bras. With their unique selling point of "Custom bras, right from your phone, in under two minutes," Radical sought to manifest this promise through an intuitive onboarding experience.
This case study delves into the process of auditing the existing experience, conducting competitor analysis, and collaborating with the client to design an experience that ensured a smooth onboarding journey for new users.
Mapping the Existing Experience
To kickstart the process, I conducted a mapping and audit of the existing onboarding experience. This exercise aimed to identify pain points and areas for improvement and my approach here was to not start from scratch, but to take what’s already there and see how it can be improved.
The current onboarding process step-by-step
My analysis revealed a crucial flaw; the existing app lacked user guidance and assistance on how to conduct the necessary scan effectively. This discovery highlighted an opportunity to provide users with a more supportive and guided experience.
Competitor Analysis and Domain Insights
To gain further insights and inspiration, I did a quick analysis of products performing similar functions in other domains, such as Verifyt, a full body scan application. This exercise helped me identify practices in user onboarding for a similar application in a different domain and the insights I gathered played an important role in shaping the design direction.
Designing the New Experience
The next phase involved crafting a new and improved onboarding experience. The primary focus was on guiding and supporting users throughout the scanning process, removing any ambiguities or uncertainties. I incorporated interactive tutorials and clear instructions to empower users and instill confidence in their ability to achieve accurate measurements of their body.
The custom pattern library used for the new designs
The new onboarding process aimed to transform users into active participants in their custom bra journey. By providing step-by-step guidance, contextual help, and clear visual clues, this process hoped to allow users to conduct the scan with ease and accuracy.

This is a great project as it solves a real problem and helps the customer who doesn't want to or cannot go into the store for measurements due to personal reasons. I can imagine some women enjoy the virtual fitting more as its more private. I love the benchmark of the Verifyt app because its a great comparison. I wonder if you were able to find information on what people people liked/disliked about Verifyt by perhaps looking at the reviews on the app and use that for your own app. I like the faster process, but I do see you're left out information about the user choosing an empty and well-lit room so I'm curious if this would cause any problems. The colour palette and font choices are also nice and soft and guiding, feels like a safe space to do this exercise in the way you've designed it. I would pay attention to the light weight font to make sure it stays readable, maybe it could be slightly darker. Overall great project, and great designs, which look chic and minimal with a soft safe feel.
