FAQs
The Design Accessibility course is aimed at teaching the fundamental principles of design accessibility and inclusivity to designers of all levels. This course covers the basics of accessibility terms, best practices, and common use cases to help designers feel more comfortable and confident in creating accessible designs.
The course explains why it is necessary to create products that accommodate as many people's needs as possible and how inclusive design is a win-win for everyone. It also provides an overview of global disability statistics, the types of impairments and the number of people affected, and the best practices for designing to ensure accessibility for all.
Students will gain the best practices for ensuring accessibility in various design elements, such as color, text, forms, links, and multimedia, among others. You will also learn how to make the design elements more inclusive and display information in activity feeds and dashboards in a clear and concise manner. The course also provides tools and techniques to ensure that designs meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) set by the World Wide Web Consortium.
Designers need to know about accessibility because it ensures that their designs are inclusive and can be accessed by everyone, including people with disabilities. Accessible design means that people with visual, hearing, motor, or cognitive impairments can use and navigate a website or product as effectively as those without disabilities.
When designers incorporate accessibility into their designs, they provide equal opportunities for all users to interact with their products, services, or websites. This not only helps create a more inclusive society but also benefits businesses by increasing their customer base and brand loyalty.
Additionally, there are legal requirements in many countries that mandate accessibility compliance for digital products and services. Failure to comply with accessibility standards can result in legal penalties, financial losses, and damage to the company's reputation.
No, you don’t need any prior knowledge of accessibility to take this course. The course covers advanced material but provides students with all the necessary knowledge step by step, so you'll benefit from the course regardless of whether you're already familiar with accessibility principles or are just beginning. In addition, non-designers such as project managers and developers can also benefit from the course as it covers universal principles of accessibility design.
