Understanding the Goal (Why)

Instagram's mission is to empower people to build communities and foster connections worldwide. The platform aims to create a space where people can connect, share, and discover meaningful content with their friends, family, and communities.

Engagement is a key indicator of how effectively Instagram is facilitating meaningful interactions among its users. A decline in engagement suggests that users are not finding value or connection on the platform. Conversely, high engagement fosters a vibrant environment by encouraging content creation, user interaction, and community expansion.

Addressing the decrease in engagement is pivotal for enhancing user connectivity and satisfaction. This not only supports Instagram's mission but also contributes to its business growth. Engaged users are more likely to interact with advertisements, make in-app purchases, and remain loyal to the platform, thereby driving revenue growth. Engaged personal users provide a robust environment for creators and businesses to succeed.

Defining the Audience (Who)

Instagram users can be divided into various segments. Out of all the segments, this project focuses on the Individuals Segment. This group uses Instagram to share personal moments, connect with others, and discover and explore content of interest. They are the everyday users driving the platform's personal and social engagement.

The persona is well presented, with key information that is all relevant to the context. The bio and the other written sections are clear. Suggestions for improvement:

  • The quote doesn't look like an actual user quote (the sentence seems incomplete)
  • Goals and pain points could have the keywords underlined or in bold for easier scannability (particularly relevant when sharing this kind of info with external stakeholders)
  • The pain points are several and quite detailed. Do they reflect the most common issues that the users you interviewed actually face, or is it rather a list of paint points you encountered in the app?
