Fitflex - Helping users achieve their fitness goals
SETTING THE STAGE
According to WHO (2021), at least 2.8 million people die annually as a result of being overweight or obese. With 75% of people experiencing unsuccessful weight loss attempts (International Journal of Obesity, 2018). It's no wonder that the journey to weight loss is fraught with obstacles, leaving many feeling frustrated, overwhelmed, and uncertain about where to begin. The abundance of conflicting advice and ineffective solutions can leave individuals feeling lost and unsure of where to start. By acknowledging these challenges, we can work to create a more supportive and effective approach to weight loss.
TARGET USERS
Many nursing mothers struggle with weight management and adopting healthier lifestyle habits due to various factors such as lack of motivation, knowledge about nutrition and exercise, busy schedules, and unhealthy eating habits. This often leads to obesity, increased risk of chronic diseases, and decreased overall well-being.
WHY NURSING MOTHERS?
Through our research, we uncovered a diverse range of user groups seeking weight loss and fitness solutions. However, we recognized that each individual's fitness journey is unique. To create a meaningful and impactful solution, we strategically focused on a critical segment of users who are in most need of targeted support: nursing mothers. We recognized an opportunity to create a ripple effect of positive change, influencing not only the mother's health but also the wellbeing of her entire family. By supporting nursing mothers in achieving their weight loss and fitness goals, we can indirectly promote a healthier and more active lifestyle for their children and loved ones.
This research and design case study showcases a thorough exploration and dive into the HCD process to create a comprehensive solution for nursing mothers to achieve their weight loss and fitness goals.

Very clear context of the project in the FitFlex documentation and excellent presentation. I can see why the team won Best Team price. Also kudos for this mentorship journey!
Problem statement was crystal clear and laid out the persona’s needs very succinctly. The statistics backing up the challenge also was great to see and indicative of a strong project proposition. The methodology was clearly laid out and the fact that you pulled out 2 themes from all the research goes to show how well prioritised this is.
I also love how you showed the before and after testing, it shows that you took the feedback to heart and iterated on the prototype. Even the extension of the app with the CWP sheet is a great touch! I just wonder what prompted this. Did the users say they would find value in this? Pin it on their fridges? I know it’s not been tested but I like the idea. Your Miro showed your extensive planning and synthesising and I appreciate you showing the work.
Only thing I’m missing is clicking through the prototype? Did I overlook that? I would love to see it in motion.
Great work, hats off to all the effort, it looks amazing!
