Case study: enhancing user engagement for ivi
Project Overview
- Objective: Design new features to increase user engagement and attract new users for ivi, a streaming platform
- Role: Product designer at UX Boost 2024 (intensive course)
- Duration: 4 hours
- Tools Used: Figma
Problem Statement
- Challenges: Users are looking for better interaction options while watching movies together. Current third-party applications like Rave are popular, and ivi aims to offer a more engaging and integrated solution.
- Goals: Develop features that make ivi more useful than third-party apps for collaborative viewing, enhancing the mobile and TV app interfaces.
Feature 1: Collaborative Viewing Recommendations
- Hypothesis: Recommendations based on group interests will facilitate easier movie selection for group viewings.
- Solution: Implement a voting system where users can vote on randomly suggested movies or select their own. The system then refines suggestions based on group preferences.
Feature 2: Gamified Viewing Experience
- Hypothesis: Gamification will attract a new audience by making the viewing experience more interactive and fun.
- Solution: Introduce interactive quizzes and challenges during the movie. For example, guess the killer in a mystery or guess a character’s line during a muted scene. Users earn points and achievements.
Feature 3: Public Viewing Rooms for Live Events
- Hypothesis: Public viewing rooms will create buzz and attract viewers, especially for live sports events.
- Solution: Enable live chat and voting features during events. Users can highlight key moments like goals or critical plays, which are then marked on the timeline for easy review.

Hey Oksana,
This is really nice work—I love it! The features are super exciting, and you did a great job illustrating and presenting your ideas. I even used Google Translate to view your presentation in English, and I’m really fond of it.
The only thing I’d love to see is a Figma link so I could explore the features on a device (I understand that’s not always possible).
NB: You might consider adjusting and submitting this under this project brief—you’d nail it!
