Introduction

Atomix is a crypto-based platform designed to allow users to invest and earn profits through cryptocurrency trading. This project came to me during the challenging COVID times, where I was brought on board remotely to continue a partially developed platform. The clients, based in Russia, aimed to create their own cryptocurrency and launch it on trading platforms. My role was to design a user-friendly and visually appealing interface that would cater to both novice and experienced investors.

Research

The main challenge in designing Atomix was the clients’ initial reluctance to conduct user research. They were convinced they knew precisely what their users needed, providing only a reference website and technical specifications. However, this approach lacked critical insights into user behavior, preferences, and pain points, potentially risking the platform’s success. It was clear that to create a truly user-centered platform, we needed to go beyond the provided specifications and conduct our own research.

To overcome the lack of initial research, I collaborated with the project manager to conduct competitive benchmarking and analysis of similar platforms. This research phase was crucial in identifying market trends, user expectations, and potential pitfalls that competitors faced. We also held several brainstorming sessions and negotiations with the clients to gradually introduce the idea of incorporating user-centric design principles. By reframing the technical specifications as outcomes derived from our research, we built a foundation for a design that balanced both business goals and user needs.

Design process

The design process began with creating a user flow to map out the various screens and their interactions. This helped visualize the user journey and ensure a logical progression through the platform.

I started with low-fidelity sketches and wireframes, focusing on accelerating decision-making without losing precious time.

The wireframes were then translated into high-fidelity prototypes using Figma, following corporate style guidelines and incorporating Material Design elements. The UI design was crafted to be clean and intuitive, ensuring a seamless experience for users while aligning with the client’s vision.

Result

Despite the initial challenges and lack of comprehensive user research, the final design of Atomix met the client’s expectations and provided a user-friendly platform tailored to the crypto trading market. The project demonstrated my ability to adapt to constraints and negotiate effectively to achieve a balanced, user-centered design.
