Zalando - Notifications
The primary goal of push notifications is to communicate a message clearly and consistent. Users receive multiple notifications daily so it's crucial to ensure that they immediately understand the key takeaway without confusion.
I made sure the notifications are clear, scannable and fitting with the tone of voice of Zalando.
Each notification begins with the important information. Making sure that if the user only reads the first words, they already grasp the message. I used simple and direct wording instead of complex phrasing to make the messages feel more natural and accessible. I also added a clear action for the user to take in each notification so they know what next steps to take.
To make sure all messages are scannable, i used short, concise sentences. This way it's clear in a short glance and will be understood quickly. I added one emoji per notification to add a visual guide, to show as a quick indicator what the notification is about (for example: checkmark for confirmation, fire for urgency for a sale, delivery truck, ...).
I used a friendly and engaging tone instead of a more 'robotic' message, making the messages feel more personal and exciting. I also created some urgency like 'Don't miss out' and 'Grab it before someone else does', using FOMO (fear of missing out), encouraging users to take immediate action.
While the messages are casual and engaging, they also remain professional and aligned with the tone of voice from Zalando. Making it feel both fun but also trustworthy.

What Works Well
✔ Clear and direct messages – The notifications are short and easy to understand.
✔ Key information first – Users can grasp the message at a glance.
✔ Friendly and engaging tone – The wording feels natural, not robotic.
✔ Action-driven – Each message gives users a clear next step.
✔ Good use of urgency – Words like “Don’t miss out” and “Grab it before someone else does” make users act fast.
What Can Be Improved
1. Make Messages Even More Direct
Some messages could be even shorter and clearer. Example:
❌ "Your favourite brands are up to 50% off today only. Don’t miss out, shop now!"
✅ "50% off today only. Shop now!"
This keeps it quick and scannable.
2. Improve Visual Hierarchy
Right now, everything looks the same. Try adding bold text or slight formatting changes to highlight key phrases.
This will help users scan messages even faster.
3. Keep Tone Consistent
Some messages feel more casual than others. Example:
- "Thank you for shopping with us!" sounds different from "Your package is on the way!"
- Keeping a consistent tone across all notifications makes the experience smoother.
4. Avoid Too Many Notifications at Once
The messages are useful, but receiving multiple notifications together might feel overwhelming.
Try grouping related updates (e.g., sales alerts, and wishlist changes) into a single message when possible.
5. Add Personalization
Notifications feel more engaging when they include the user’s name or product details. Example:
❌ "Your package is on the way."
✅ "Laura, your Mango Wide Jeans are on the way."
This makes messages feel more relevant and personal.
6. Match Zalando’s Brand Voice
The tone fits well, but checking Zalando’s real notifications could help match their exact phrasing and structure.
Small details like punctuation, wording, and formatting matter.
Final Thoughts
- The design is clear, engaging, and well-structured.
- Small improvements in formatting, consistency, and personalization will make it even stronger.
- Keep refining and testing to improve the user experience.
Great work—keep going!
Really nice work on these notifications! I like how you've kept the tone friendly and helpful throughout. Love the smart use of emojis too, they add a good amount of personality without going overboard. The urgency in the messages feels natural and motivating rather than pushy, which is great. Solid copywriting overall!
Hi Laura,
You’ve done an amazing job with the Zalando notifications! The friendly tone and thoughtful use of emojis really make the messages feel welcoming and engaging. To make them even more user-friendly, you might consider simplifying a few messages for quicker readability and using bold text to highlight key points. Personalizing notifications with product details or the user’s name could add a nice touch too! You’re on a great path, and with a little tweaking, this will be even more polished. Keep up the wonderful work!
Great job! I like the friendliness of the copy and the consistency, it works really well. If I were to recommend a potential improvement that would be making the headers / titles a bit more direct and catchy, as well shorter copy within the notification bubbles to not take up more than two lines of text. In terms of the titles, this can be done by eg. changing them to "50% off now" in case of the second bubble and "Order shipped" in case of the fourth one, these could potentially lead to more clicks and sales. That's of course something that would ideally be tested with metrics in an A/B test, but overall conveying such direct information in a heading positively improves conversation rates :)
Great work! I can see that you understood the lesson well 🔥
Hey Laura!
Great job on the Zalando notifications! They’re clear, concise, and have a friendly tone that feels natural and engaging.
What works well is the clarity of the messages, the clear calls to action, and the friendly vibe. The urgency in phrases like “Don’t miss out” really encourages users to act fast.
One thing to consider is making sure the tone stays consistent across all the notifications. This will help create a more cohesive brand voice. Also, shortening the text a bit could make it even easier for users to quickly understand the message without scanning too much.
This is great work!
Your notifications are clear, concise, and engaging! The scannability is spot-on, and the tone feels friendly yet professional, perfectly aligned with Zalando’s brand. The use of emojis adds a nice visual touch without overwhelming the message. Maybe a bit more variation in phrasing could prevent repetition, but overall, this is a well-executed design. Great job!
