Mobile Settings Page in Social Media App
In this assignment, I designed a settings page in a social media application. First of all, I researched this page in applications I often use like IG, Facebook and Twitter (X) to grasp its information architecture and design patterns. Personally, I preferred an IG settings page in the aspect of menu grouping since it, arguably, was so straightforward to scan for what I was looking for. Consequently, the project inspiration was primarily from this application – to present an interface with a well-structured list of menus that facilitated the use of app settings.
Among these 3 apps, despite the different arrangement of menus, there was a resemblance of settings options as follows: an account profile, account privacy, friends/followers, content displayed on users’ feed/timeline, social interaction (tagging, commenting, texting & calling), push notifications, dark mode, app languages, and device permissions. A support channel and details on terms of services, along with other policies, were provided here as well.
Here is the information architecture I summarized and grouped for my design:
- Your Account (the most frequent item) - a menu to edit profile information and private and secure an account
- Your Friends - a menu to manage users’ friend list including favourite and blocked friends
- Your Space - a menu to adjust what kind of content that application should or shouldn’t recommend as well as to select who can interact with users
- Your Preferences - a menu to personalize app appearance and notifications – what information and when to notify users
- Your Permissions - a menu to ask users’ consent to get access to their device and in-app data for third parties’ benefits
- App Info (the least frequent item) - a menu to provide additional help, together with further information about the application’s services and policies
As for UI design, I imagined a new application, ForgetMeNot, to set a theme for the whole design. ForgetMeNot was a social media application inspired by flowers with the same name. It gave users a soft and comfortable vibe to “plant” their precious memories in this space and always remember these unforgettable moments in their lives – to forget memories not.
In Figma, you can go to a Presentation page to explore a brief overview of the app concept. Meanwhile, you can view and interact with my design in a Prototype page. There is a ForgetMeNot settings page in a light/dark mode version as well as a device settings page (when tapping on notifications and device permissions menus, you will automatically jump to this page.) Besides a prototype, I created all icons in the project since I wanted to practice this design skill as well. So please feel free to additionally comment on them.
Thank you for your time. Hope you enjoy my work!
