Testing for usability

Visual elements like colors are part of a holistic experience, which also includes content and interaction.[1] While first impressions matter, they don’t provide the full picture. That’s why it’s crucial to assess how colors impact user behavior and task success during product interaction.

Colors can significantly affect the usability of buttons, links, and other components. For instance, gray buttons may appear disabled, even if they are not.

If usability testing indicates that some colors are not effective, revisit and adjust your palette. Continue testing until both you and your users are satisfied with the results.

Pro Tip: If you only have the time and resources to do one test before launching the product, make it a usability test with added techniques to assess visual design.
