Overview

I decided to use this challenge as practice for 3 things.

1 - Practice with my own limited Figma design skills

2 - Using AI to help fill in the blanks of design tasks

3 - Approach this from the starting point of a blank page, no opinions, no stakeholders. Something that I have rarely, If ever had the luxury to do.

My approach

1 - All design decisions should be grounded in the brand, so first I needed to develop a brand. These brand elements help give context to the designs you are creating and help determine if it is right or not. So I used AI to generate a brand (Numa - The Mindfulness App)

A Brand essence - At its heart, this brand is about helping people slow down, tune in, and nourish themselves—body and mind—through mindfulness and conscious living. The mobile app becomes a digital sanctuary, designed to feel like stepping into a quiet grove, where presence, breath, and awareness bloom.

A Brand personality -

Grounded: Rooted in nature and evidence-based practices.

Gentle: Never pushy, always inviting.

Holistic: Balances mind, body, and ecosystem.

Soulful: Evokes a sense of meaning and inner nourishment.

And to define the other basis for the brand elements -

Logo: Circular, organic, text-free or minimalist wordmark. Symbols of roots, leaves, breath.

Typography: Calm, rounded sans-serif. If any, used sparingly and with intention.

Tone of voice - Natural & Nourishing, Minimal, with Meaning, Supportive, Not Directive

Palette: Crafted to evoke calm, connection to nature, and a sense of inner nourishment.

From this AI was also asked to create the logo, brand palette, typeface and Tone of Voice used.

2 - As the focus of this task was to generate an accessible design, I assessed some basic design elements for suitability to determine how to fundamentally apply sold accessibility to any designs.

3 - After this was done the sign-up design journey followed a standard path.

The main things I like about this design..... well in truth, I'm not really a huge fan of it. But the task for me was not just about making something accessible (which I believe it is). But more about how AI was able to help me fill in blanks that I think are important in forming design decisions. And to this end, I think it is clear to see how the brand comes through in the design provided.

I don't currently have the Figma skills to include animations..... :(

Some accessible aspects.

  • All contrast meets WCAG to at least AA standards
  • Social sin in options are expected these days
  • User friendly and on brand tone of voice
  • No small touch targets
  • Thumb accessible placement

I will aim to use this as a basis for further improvement in Figma

Hi Jamie, it’s great to see your project. I truly appreciate your humility when you writing about the project. It’s a nice thought to initiate this project by creating a conceptual branding image. I also believe you submitted your own work (with AI supported as you mentioned) and the overall looks good.

The design of the sign-up screen would probably meet the accessible aspects that you mentioned. On another hand, the vibe that the UI screen bringing also aligns with the brand personality that you defined.

Some of my recommendations:

  1. Let’s consider grouping suitable information together. For example, the title “What’s your email” should be grouped with the email input. It help users to distinguish that sign-up method with the method using third-party authentication. Accordingly, the information architecture of the screen would be also improved.
  2. I’m a bit curious about anything else you have done in Figma file. So it would be great if we could see how you have used Figma to make the project possible. Currently, the file is not shared publicly so I am not be able to access to it.

I look forward to hearing from you. Have a nice day!
