Pulse Music App - Light/Dark Mode
This project presents a mobile music streaming interface designed in both light and dark modes. The visual direction combines Japandi minimalism with retro-inspired audio elements to create a calm, expressive, and focused user experience.
A system-driven approach was used, including color tokens, typography, spacing, and reusable components. Dark mode was designed intentionally rather than inverted, ensuring readability, accessibility, and consistent visual hierarchy.
Key interactions such as playback controls and progress tracking were designed to feel tactile and intuitive, while accessibility principles guided contrast, spacing, and touch target decisions throughout the interface.
The result is a clean, cohesive, and accessible music experience that balances visual identity with usability.

Andrei, this is such a solid project! In both dark and light mode the buttons are easy to identify without being too vibrant. The colour palette, fonts and imagery you've gone for matches the app really nicely.
Amazing job! :)
Strong visual polish. Typography, spacing, and color palette feel very intentional, especially the light/dark theme consistency. The mini player is well integrated and keeps controls accessible without being too intrusive.
One thing to improve is hierarchy on the home screen. “Recently Played” and “Curated for You” compete equally, so it’s not clear what to focus on first. Also, some secondary text (artist names, descriptions) feels slightly low contrast, especially in dark mode, which could affect readability over time.
The Japandi aesthetic really works here. Cream in light mode and the intentionally designed dark mode form a pair that holds together without feeling like one is just an inversion of the other. The waveform on the progress bar instead of a classic line is a great detail that adds character and fits the "tactile feel" described in the brief. The coral accent color is consistently carried through both screens, building a cohesive system.
The one thing that slightly jars: the icons at the bottom of the player screen (connect, lyrics, share) have no labels. With such a minimalist design, it's easy to lose affordance, especially for new users. It's also worth checking whether the cover art grid on the library screen has any tap state - it's not visible in the screenshot.
This is a project that already looks portfolio-ready. The systemic thinking and attention to detail are both clearly visible and that's a rare combination. Polish the edge cases and this will be a genuinely strong piece. 👏🔥
The project shows strong potential for real-world application. The intentional blend of Japandi minimalism with retro elements creates a unique and refined aesthetic that works surprisingly well. The restrained use of accent color enhances the retro feel without overwhelming the interface. I also appreciate the thoughtful selection of covers, which help build a cohesive and immersive experience. Overall, it’s very well executed—I’d be interested in seeing a more developed version with richer interactions.
Really nice work on this. The project feels very polished and intentional, and the visual direction stands out straight away. I like how you combined a calm, minimal style with retro music elements without making it feel forced. The dark mode is especially strong and gives the whole app a premium feel.
I really love that it doesn’t just look good, it feels cohesive. The spacing, colors, typography, and overall structure work really well together, and you can tell a lot of thought went into the system behind it.
Overall, it seems that this is a very clean and well-executed project with a strong identity. Great job, Andrei!
