Be upfront about accessibility research
To be able to ask participants about physical and mental attributes that relate to the research, you need to ensure two things:
- Be clear about your objectives. Explain to participants from the start that you're focusing on accessibility in your research. This will provide the context for your questions and let the participant decide if they want to take part in the study.
- Check your local or federal laws. In some places, disability is considered medical information. It may not be considered ethical to ask directly about it, and even information that is volunteered may require special handling.
