Darker colors like black, blue, violet have more visual weight than their paler counterparts. Red, though, is perceived to be the heaviest of all colors.[1]

Keep in mind that we subconsciously expect to see heavier objects at the bottom — otherwise, the composition looks top-heavy and makes us feel uncomfortable.
