Discovery Workshop Agenda – Roth Conversion Workflow
Duration: 1 hour
Goal: Explore user needs, pain points, and opportunities for a streamlined Roth conversion modeling workflow in our software.
1. Welcome & Context (5 min)
- Quick introduction and purpose of the workshop.
- Brief overview of the Roth conversion topic and why it matters for UHNW clients.
- Set expectations: focus on discovery, no solutions yet.
2. Current Experience Mapping (10 min)
- Ask participants: “How do advisors currently model Roth conversions in the software?”
- Map out the current steps on a whiteboard or Miro board.
- Identify pain points and bottlenecks in the current workflow.
Outputs: Visual map of current workflow, top frustrations.
3. Stakeholder Goals & User Needs (10 min)
- Discuss who uses this workflow (advisors, clients, compliance team).
- Identify key goals for each user type:
- Advisors: accuracy, speed, client-facing clarity
- Clients: understanding impact, ease of decision-making
- Compliance: auditability and documentation
Outputs: List of user goals and needs.
4. Pain Points & Opportunity Areas (10 min)
- Brainstorm specific challenges with Roth conversion modeling (complex tax implications, multiple scenarios, etc.)
- Use sticky notes (physical or digital) to capture pain points.
- Cluster similar issues to highlight opportunity areas.
Outputs: Prioritized list of pain points and opportunities.
5. Ideation – Quick Wins & Features (15 min)
- Encourage team to propose features or workflow improvements.
- Focus on ideas that could:
- Simplify the modeling process
- Make scenarios easier to visualize
- Reduce errors or manual input
- Use dot voting to identify the most promising ideas.
Outputs: Shortlist of potential features/enhancements.
6. Next Steps & Wrap-up (10 min)
- Summarize key takeaways from the session.
- Assign follow-up actions (e.g., research, prototyping, user testing).
- Thank the team and set expectations for the next design phase.

- Miro/Whiteboard for mapping workflows
- Post-its for ideation and clustering
- Timer to keep each section on track
