1. User Experience (UX) and Interface (UI) Design

The primary goal was to create a modern, engaging, and highly functional music streaming experience across desktop/web and mobile platforms.

Rationale:

  • Aesthetic Appeal and Engagement: A dark mode theme was chosen as the default (or prominent option) because it's widely popular in media consumption apps, reduces eye strain during prolonged use, and allows vibrant album art and visuals to stand out.
  • Information Hierarchy: The design uses a clear visual hierarchy. The Explore section on the desktop/web client prioritizes new and trending content (like The Weeknd's 'Blinding Lights' spot), followed by personalized favorites, and then general curated playlists/albums. This ensures users are immediately presented with fresh content and have easy access to what they already love.
  • Intuitive Navigation: A persistent left sidebar on the desktop/web interface (with icons for Explore, Favourites, Downloads, etc.) and a bottom tab bar on the mobile app (implied by the screenshots) provide consistent and direct access to core features.
  • Focus on Visuals: Album art is large and dominates the 'card' elements. This emphasizes the artists and their brand, which is crucial for music platforms.

Decision-Making:

  • Choosing Dark Mode: Decided over a light theme for better viewing in low light and to enhance the colorful album art.
  • Desktop Layout: Adopted a standard 'dashboard' approach, splitting the screen into navigation, main content, and a persistent 'Recents' or playback bar for quick access and control.
  • Mobile Layout: Prioritized a focused, single-scroll experience on mobile, featuring the artist profile prominently and organizing information into clear, easily tappable sections (Profile, Albums, Top Artist Songs, News).

2. Content Discovery and Curation

A core challenge for any music service is ensuring users can easily find new music while quickly accessing their favorites.

Rationale:

  • Highlighting Top Content: Placing a large banner for an internationally trending artist (The Weeknd) and linking it to a major editorial list ("Top Billboard 100 Song of All Time") drives immediate engagement and positions the platform as a source for global hits.
  • Personalization: The inclusion of a 'Recents' section and a 'Favourites' playlist row (desktop/web) caters to established user habits and streamlines access to previously enjoyed content.
  • Artist Deep Dive: The mobile screens focus on a single artist profile (The Weeknd), offering dedicated sections like 'Albums', 'Top Artist Songs', and 'News'. This caters to highly engaged fans who want to explore an artist's entire catalog and latest happenings.
  • Lyrics Integration: The mobile screenshots prominently feature an integrated lyrics display. This is a high-value feature, enhancing user immersion and encouraging sing-alongs, thus increasing session time.

Decision-Making:

  • Prioritizing 'Explore': Made 'Explore' the landing page for both platforms to maximize the visibility of new and curated content, driving discovery.
  • Emphasizing Context: Added contextual information like 'Lyrics of the day' (mobile) and editorial write-ups (implied by the large banner text) to provide richer context than just a track list.

3. Monetization and Feature Promotion (Anghami Plus)

As a freemium service, promoting the paid subscription is critical to the business model.

Rationale:

  • Strategic Placement of CTA: A large, visually distinct 'Get Anghami plus' call-to-action (CTA) is placed centrally within the 'Explore' section on the desktop/web client. Its bright, contrasting purple background ensures it cannot be missed.
  • Clear Value Proposition: The CTA clearly states the benefit ("Get Anghami plus") and the current promotional pricing ("FREE for 1 month, renews at EGP 49/month"), utilizing regional currency (EGP - Egyptian Pound) for maximum local relevance and clarity.

Decision-Making:

  • Visual Contrast: Used a distinct color (purple) for the Anghami Plus promotion, breaking the dark-mode aesthetic to draw the eye instantly.
  • Placement: Placed the ad unit within the primary scroll area, but designed it as a native card to feel like part of the platform's content, rather than a jarring external ad.

4. Localization and Regional Relevance

Given Anghami's roots and strong presence in the MENA (Middle East and North Africa) region, localization is a key design consideration.

Rationale:

  • Cultural Content: The inclusion of artists and albums with regional significance (e.g., 'El Sohabo', 'MAQSOUM', 'GUESA HAZENA', 'Florida', and the mention of EGP currency) demonstrates an understanding of the local market's music tastes and transactional expectations.
  • Tailored Experience: Unlike global competitors that might apply a one-size-fits-all approach, Anghami's design emphasizes regional content alongside international hits, creating a truly localized service.

Decision-Making:

  • Integrating Local Artists: Ensure local chart-toppers and popular playlists are interspersed with global acts in the 'Explore' and 'Recents' sections.
  • Currency Display: Displaying pricing in local currency (EGP) for the premium service reduces friction in the purchase process.
