Your efforts will ensure products are intuitive, visually appealing, timely, and effective.

Who We Are

The Verge is an ambitious multimedia effort founded in 2011 to examine how technology will change life in the future for a massive mainstream audience.

The Verge is part of Vox Media, the leading modern media company. We guide our audience from discovery to obsession. We inspire essential conversations about what’s now, what’s next, and what’s possible.

As a community of journalists and storytellers, business professionals, creators and technologists, we believe it is a moral and business imperative to amplify voices: to cultivate diversity, equity, and inclusion throughout our organization and media. This applies to our candidates, our teams, our storytelling, our creative work, and our platforms, products, and partnerships.

What You’ll Do

The product manager will lead the development of The Verge’s frontend website, driving initiatives that directly support our annual goals. They’ll champion our vision for Quick Posts, enhance the homepage experience for our loyal readership, support the growth of our subscription product, collaborate with talented Verge staffers to launch new email newsletters, and help prioritize improvements to our CMS and editorial tools.

  • Partner with the Senior Creative Director to define and evolve the product vision, strategy, and roadmap, ensuring alignment with The Verge’s mission and reader needs.
  • Collaborate with partners across engineering, analytics, design, editorial, and project management teams at every stage of the product lifecycle, including research, ideation, launch, maintenance, and iteration.
  • Work closely with the user research team to conduct user research and analyze market trends and competitive insights to inform feature development and prioritization.
  • Turn editorial and business goals into actionable product requirements by maintaining a prioritized backlog, writing detailed tickets, and managing incoming bugs and user feedback.
  • Track key performance indicators, gather qualitative and quantitative feedback, and use insights to optimize product performance and user experience.
  • Actively contribute to team rituals (stand-ups, sprint planning, retros) while fostering a collaborative, inclusive, and purpose-driven team culture.

Who You Are

The ideal candidate is passionate about tech journalism. You thrive in fast paced, collaborative environments and are excited to bridge the gap between editorial, design, and engineering teams. Naturally curious, you leverage both data and qualitative insights to inform decision making. You prioritize user needs and user-centric experiences, and are genuinely excited to build products that empower great journalism and storytelling.

You should have:

  • 3+ years of experience leading digital products from early ideas through launch and ongoing improvements, especially in media, data, or analytics-focused roles.
  • Clear, thoughtful communication across teams, whether you're writing documentation, chatting in Slack, or presenting on a video call.
  • Frontend experience with B2C or consumer-facing products. React/Next.js a plus.
  • You know how to manage a backlog, set priorities, and keep projects on track.
  • A strong background in using data and audience insights to guide decisions that lead to improved product experiences.
  • Able to juggle both quick fixes and longer-term planning, with close attention to detail and a steady focus on moving forward.
  • Familiarity with standard product tools like Jira, Figma, AirTable, Google Analytics, Looker.

Nice-to-haves but not required:

  • Product management experience with products that help readers discover and engage with journalism, including search, social platforms, and newsletters.
  • An understanding of how editorial teams work and the tools they use to produce and share stories.
  • Experience with content management systems, email service providers, identity/auth solutions, or affiliate marketing platforms are a plus, but not required.
