POSITION OVERVIEW

The Graphic Designer is charged with managing graphic design tasks, refining projects and drafts, and designing graphic materials of the highest quality across creative assets for all Sundance Institute programs, including print and digital media.

Working closely under the direction of the Creative Director, the Graphic Designer also creates graphic assets for use on all digital platforms, including Institute web properties, external sites, and social media.

This full-time position may work remotely from within the following operating states: AZ, CO, CT, FL, GA, IL, IN, LA, MA, MI, MT, NE, NJ, OH, OR, PA, TX, UT, VA, and the District of Columbia. Preference will be given to candidates based in a commutable distance to Boulder, CO in order to work onsite in a hybrid capacity. Extended hours, including evenings and weekends will be required at key points, and travel to Institute offices and events will be required on occasion.

Top priorities include but are not limited to…

  • Guiding the development of and actively creating design work for all Sundance Institute programs and initiatives.
  • Creating media rich and appealing graphics for a variety of Marketing materials, including print and digital ads, social assets, environmental graphics, signage, merchandise design, special event branding and invitations, video tags, email templates, and digital presentations.
  • Partnering with the Accessibility team to ensure design work meets accessibility standards as needed.
  • Reviewing and approving graphics created and used by outside vendors, partners, and outlets to ensure they are applied appropriately, with guidance of the Creative Director,
  • Obtaining edits and approvals required to move projects to the next stage and generating edits on projects.
  • Acting as a resource for the seasonal design team ensuring that all work is cohesive and meets our design standards and guidelines, as needed.
  • Partnering with department colleagues to maintain the design calendar in Airtable, meet deadlines, consistently update project tracking, obtaining necessary approvals and managing print projects as needed.
  • Developing materials and conducting training for seasonal design employees as needed, to ensure the team is clear on their responsibilities, processes, and expectations.
  • Overseeing and partnering in the production of graphic systems, design asset kits, advertising deliverables, social media assets, signage, and video graphics for all Sundance Institute programs and labs.
  • Tracking timelines with printers and external vendors to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Providing graphic assets to outside vendors, partners, and outlets, on an as-needed basis.
  • Collaborating with the various departments to determine and deliver on graphic needs while adhering to department schedules and meeting deadlines.
  • Organizing, filing, and archiving all artwork files.
  • Supporting with Festival wrap, including working to identify areas of successes and improvement for next year.
  • Supporting the production and installation of environmental graphics for programs and events.
  • Conducting venue site visits as part of planning for installation of environmental graphics to ensure quality.
  • Conducting press checks with printers to provide feedback and ensure the output meets our standards.

You have the following direct or transferable skill sets:

  • 3-4 years of experience in graphic design, including experience creating graphic assets for digital platforms, and video and motion design.
  • Strong leadership skills to effectively guide and motivate others.
  • Ability to quickly create a variety of initial design concepts and refine them into final designs.
  • Proficient in Adobe Creative Suite, InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop and familiarity with other emerging technologies such as Canva.com and Adobe Express.
  • Knowledgeable in printing production methods, fabrication, and installation.
  • A graphic design portfolio that demonstrates creativity and versatility of skills.
  • Outstanding written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills to work effectively with a variety of people.
  • Exceptional project management, organizational, and time management skills and attention to detail.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, FileMaker, Excel, and Google Applications.
  • Excellent typography skills.
  • UX experience and light photo retouching skills preferred.
  • Legal authorization to work in the United States.
