As the Director of Product, Data, you'll lead GitLab's data product strategy and delivery across three areas: customer analytics and reporting, data products that can drive revenue, and internal data products that support GitLab's reporting and decisions. You'll set the vision for a reporting platform that helps customers understand and improve how they build and deliver software, including dashboards for engineering efficiency, DORA metrics, value stream analytics, and security insights. You'll also drive new data products like the GitLab Knowledge Graph and define how we connect and share data inside and outside the GitLab ecosystem to support analytics and AI.

In this director-level role, you'll manage and grow a team with direct reports and partner closely with engineering leadership to make clear, high-impact product decisions. Success requires a 0 to 1 mindset and strong systems thinking. You'll shape prioritization, define target customer cohorts, and build a path to monetization for complex data products. You'll also represent the data product direction in executive conversations, aligning stakeholders on what we're building, why it matters, and how it can drive a durable new revenue stream for GitLab.

Some examples of our projects:

  • Building and scaling a reporting and analytics platform that helps customers create dashboards for engineering efficiency, DORA metrics, value stream analytics, and security outcomes
  • Defining and launching new data products, including the GitLab Knowledge Graph, to power analytics and AI experiences across GitLab
  • Creating a clear strategy to monetize data capabilities, including packaging, positioning, and prioritization of 0 to 1 product bets that can open new revenue streams
  • Enabling customers to access and export GitLab data as a product, so they can integrate it into their own data warehouses and analytics workflows
  • Improving internal data foundations that support GitLab's own product usage reporting and business reporting, partnering closely with engineering and executive stakeholders

What you'll do

  • Set the product vision, strategy, and roadmap for GitLab's data product area, including a reporting and analytics platform that helps customers understand performance across the software development lifecycle.
  • Lead and develop a team of product managers, providing clear priorities, coaching, and an operating cadence that supports high-quality execution in a remote, asynchronous environment.
  • Partner closely with engineering leadership to shape system-level architecture and sequencing, aligning technical investments with customer outcomes and business impact.
  • Define and deliver core analytics experiences for GitLab customers, such as engineering efficiency dashboards, DORA metrics dashboards, value stream analytics dashboards, and security dashboards.
  • Drive the go-to-market and product strategy for monetizing data capabilities, including identifying target customer cohorts, packaging, and value propositions for data products.
  • Lead 0 to 1 product work for emerging capabilities like the GitLab Knowledge Graph, helping connect data across GitLab and beyond to power analytics and artificial intelligence outcomes.
  • Enable secure, reliable data access as a product, including customer-facing pathways to export or integrate GitLab data into external analytics and data warehouse environments.
  • Ensure the data platform supports GitLab's internal reporting needs, including product usage insights and other internal analytics, by aligning stakeholders on definitions, data quality, and trusted metrics.

What you'll bring

  • Deep experience leading product management for data platforms and data products in enterprise software or SaaS, including building foundational analytics and reporting capabilities that serve a broad customer base.
  • Demonstrated ability to take data products from 0 to 1, including defining vision, validating customer needs, and delivering an initial product that can scale.
  • Strong systems thinking and comfort operating across a complex data ecosystem, including platform instrumentation, data modeling, and how data connects across product areas to power analytics and AI outcomes.
  • Proven track record of developing monetization strategies for complex data products, including identifying target customer cohorts, defining packaging and value propositions, and partnering across the business to open new revenue streams.
  • Director-level people leadership experience, including managing and developing product managers and building high-performing, collaborative teams.
  • Strong cross-functional partnership skills, especially with engineering leadership, to set strategy, make tradeoffs, and drive execution across multiple workstreams and stakeholders.
  • Executive-level communication skills, with experience leading strategic conversations, aligning leaders on priorities, and clearly articulating product strategy, impact, and decisions.
  • Ability to work autonomously and asynchronously in a fully remote environment, staying aligned through clear written communication, measurable goals, and consistent operating rhythms.

About the team

The Data Product team builds the foundations and experiences that help customers and GitLab team members use data with confidence. We work cross-functionally across product, engineering, and go-to-market stakeholders to set priorities, define trusted metrics, and deliver iteratively in a remote, asynchronous environment.
