Sprint planning and estimation
Sprint planning in a Scrum is the meeting where the team decides what to work on in the next sprint. The product owner must be ready before the meeting with prioritized backlog items and the information needed to explain them. During the meeting, they must present the most important items, and the team discusses what can be done. Together, they agree on a sprint goal, giving the sprint a clear focus.
The team then selects backlog items that support this goal and breaks them into smaller tasks. They estimate how much effort is needed using simple methods like story points or planning poker. This helps avoid overcommitment and keeps the pace sustainable.
By the end of the session, the team has two things: a sprint goal and a sprint backlog. The sprint goal explains why the work matters, and the sprint backlog lists what will be done and how. Sprint planning makes sure everyone understands the plan and feels confident about what can be achieved.
