Continuous learning

Continuous learning Bad Practice
Continuous learning Best Practice

Design is a constantly evolving industry where tools and approaches may vary from project to project. Being a UX designer means constantly learning new skills and keeping track of the latest trends regardless of your experience and level of seniority.

Investment in knowledge always pays off. Your only concern is how to choose learning materials that will actually benefit your career out of the thousands of resources available.

How can UX designers develop their continuous learning skills?

  • Attend conferences and workshops. Today, you can attend UX events without leaving your couch. Explore updates on virtual and onsite events via local and international design communities on social media or websites like All Design Conferences or Design Calendar.
  • Read books. Although books are no longer the only source of wisdom in our digital era, they offer fundamental knowledge in an old-fashioned, structured way. Books like Design of Everyday Things by Don Norman or Steve Krug's Don't Make Me Think are considered the bibles of the design world, and their ideas will hardly ever fade.
  • Explore design blogs. While books cost money and require more time and effort to go through, design blogs are a cheap yet effective method of staying up-to-date. Among the most reputable sources are NN Group, User Interface Engineering, UX Magazine, and UX Mastery.
