Description

About collectionHQ

collectionHQ (a Fluent Software Group/Valsosft company) is based in Scotland, UK. We provide software solutions and services to public and academic libraries worldwide. We are driving change in our internal processes to increase efficiencies and drive growth.

The Role

We're looking for a UI Designer to support the delivery of product features across our platform. This role focuses on turning defined ideas into clear, consistent, build-ready designs. You'll work closely with the Senior UX Designer, who leads user research, design strategy, and usability direction, and you'll be responsible for translating that defined direction into high-quality UI — while contributing to refinement and improvement within an established design framework.

You'll work across both established products and new initiatives — improving and extending existing UI, while also contributing to early-stage concepts where structure and patterns are still being defined. You'll also play a key role in improving consistency and speed by building and maintaining reusable UI components, and using AI tools to accelerate design workflows.

Contract Details

6-month fixed-term contract. Potential to extend or convert to a permanent role based on performance and business needs.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Work within an existing product UI, evolving and improving it under the guidance of the Senior UX Designer
  • Turn requirements, sketches, and wireframes into polished UI designs
  • Create high-quality screens, flows, and interactive prototypes
  • Build and maintain reusable components and patterns in Figma
  • Ensure consistency across products using shared styles and components
  • Prepare designs for development with clear states, behaviours, and annotations
  • Work at pace to keep design ahead of development cycles
  • Use AI tools to speed up ideation, iteration, and production workflows
  • Participate in ideation sessions and contribute to practical design solutions
  • Contribute ideas and refinements to the UI while working within established design direction and constraints
  • Work across both existing products and new product concepts, adapting between structured and undefined problem spaces
  • Apply accessibility best practices (WCAG 2.2 basics) to your work

Who You Are

Essential Skills

  • Strong UI design experience within digital products (ideally SaaS or B2B tools)
  • Proven experience creating and managing component-based design in Figma (components, variants, libraries)
  • Ability to take rough concepts and turn them into clear, usable interfaces
  • Good understanding of interaction states, edge cases, and user flows
  • Experience preparing designs for developer handoff
  • Familiarity with AI tools in design workflows (e.g. prototyping, ideation, content, automation)
  • Understanding of WCAG 2.2 fundamentals and accessible design practices
  • Ability to work quickly and stay organised across multiple workstreams
  • Comfortable working both within established design systems and from a blank canvas, creating structure where none exists

Nice to Have

  • Experience working in fast-paced or startup-like environments
  • Exposure to AI-enabled product features (e.g. prompts, recommendations, automation)
  • Experience working across multiple products or design systems
  • Basic prototyping skills beyond static screens (interactive flows)

Qualifications

A qualification (degree or equivalent) in a design discipline — such as product design, UI, or digital design — is desirable but not essential.

How You'll Work

  • You'll work from defined direction based on research, customer insight, and product priorities
  • You'll collaborate closely with product and engineering teams
  • You'll own the UI execution and consistency layer of the design process

About the Team

The team this role will work with are based in Scotland, UK, and consists of a Product Manager, Senior UX Designer, four developers, and one tester. This role will report to the Senior UX Designer.
