UX Research
Summary
In this project, a variety of UX research methods were utilized to gain insights into user needs and preferences. Techniques included Desk research, Surveys, Competitive analysis, and Usability testing. Each method provided valuable data that informed the design and development decisions, ensuring that LevelUp Lore met the expectations of its target audience effectively.
Competitive Analysis
Competitive Analysis for LevelUp Lore involved systematically evaluating seven major gaming guide platforms, including YouTube, IGN, GameFAQs, GamePressure, and Steam Community. These platforms were selected for their diverse approach to game-specific content and general gaming guides. The analysis focused on comparing user interface design, feature sets, and content strategies across these platforms. Key metrics assessed included navigation simplicity, content richness, and user engagement, providing critical insights for strategic development.
(Note: As most competitors are not exclusively focused on gaming, this analysis specifically emphasized the game-related aspects of their content.)
Survey
Surveys are a primary research tool that involves collecting data from 10 participants through structured questionnaires. For LevelUp Lore, the survey focused on understanding gaming frequency, platform preferences, game genre interests, information sourcing habits, and the features gamers value most in guide websites.
Surveys were conducted online using Google Forms to ensure ease of access.
Questions were designed to be direct and easy to understand, avoiding technical jargon to reduce respondent fatigue and improve the quality of responses.
SWOT Analysis
From the competitive analysis, raw data was collected and organized into a SWOT analysis—identifying Strengths, Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats of competing platforms. Strengths often included comprehensive content libraries and strong brand recognition, while weaknesses included inconsistent guide quality and limited interactive elements. Opportunities were identified in exploiting gaps in niche game coverage and enhancing guide interactivity, whereas threats involved the rapid evolution of game content and the strong brand loyalty of established competitors.
